WACSS expands to be inclusive

On Sept.15, 2023, the Women's Advisory Committee for Support Staff will have a new name, Workforce Action Committee for Spartan Staff, or WACSS.

Established in 1976 by the Board of Trustees to advise about issues that primarily affect women support staff, WACSS was originally established along with two other women's advisory committees, one for students and one for faculty/academic staff, and has undergone many name changes over the years:

  • Women’s Advisory Committee for Finance, Personnel and Operations (2004–2008)
  • Women’s Advisory Committee for Finance and Operations (2008–2014)
  • Women’s Advisory Committee for Support Staff (2014–2022)
  • Workforce Action Committee for Spartan Staff (2023–Present)

Being the only committee for support staff, the committee recently recognized the necessity to evolve and expand to improve campus alignment, promote inclusion and expand impact. The newly renamed WACSS is a dynamic committee that can adapt over time, serving all academic, support, and executive staff constituents with programs, events and advising.

Reporting to the Office of the Executive Vice President for Administration, this committee envisions to be a recognized leader in building community connections; promoting equity, education and advocacy; and elevating advancement and leadership.

The committee's mission of amplifying university staff voices to advance a culture of inclusion and equity and supporting university staff success will continue and serve as a resource to make an impact across the campus community.

If you’re interested in professional development, continuous improvement and making a positive difference, consider joining the Workforce Action Committee for Spartan Staff and apply to join the committee today.
