A Fritillaria imperialis, or crown imperial plant, stretches out to display its unique blooms in the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden. Named for its resemblance to an emperor’s crown, the noble plant is a perfect accessory to the garden as it celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
History was made on Friday, April 21, as university leadership and members of the MSU community broke ground on a first-of-its-kind, 34,000-square-foot multicultural center, northeast of the intersection of North Shaw and Farm lanes. Photo by Nick Schrader.
Scheduled to be completed by the fall semester of 2024, the multicultural center will become a hub for students to foster cultural and intellectual curiosity, with planned features including an outdoor amphitheater, collaboration spaces, student organization offices, a resource center and more. Curator of rare books and Special Collections cataloger Tad Boehmer shows neuroscience students rare books as they prepare for their upcoming education abroad program, Foundations of Neuroscience. Participants in the program travel to England and Italy to study the history of neuroscience and the relationship between art, science and the self, while experiencing British and Italian culture.
