State Room earns Wine Spectator Restaurant Award in 2022

State Room Restaurant at MSU among the world’s best restaurants for wine

Michigan State University's State Room Restaurant has again been honored for its outstanding wine program in Wine Spectator’s 2022 Restaurant Awards. The awards celebrate the world’s best restaurants for wine.

“I want to congratulate all 3,169 restaurants that earned one of Wine Spectator’s three awards for their devotion to all things wine,” said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator. “These awards not only guide our readers to dining establishments with impressive wine lists and outstanding service but also honor restaurants for their achievements and commitment to maintaining pristine cellars. We are thrilled to reveal our 2022 Dining Guide, which points to places where wine drinkers are warmly welcomed.”

Wine Spectator began its program recognizing the world’s best wine lists in 1981. There are three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award—with 1,782; 1,290; and 97 winners this year in each respective category.

The State Room has earned the Best of Award of Excellence for 17 consecutive years, an impressive achievement for the dining operation. This year, they are among only 12 restaurants in the state of Michigan that received the Best of Award of Excellence. Additionally, the State Room is the only recipient of this level in the Greater Lansing area.

“It is truly an honor for our team to be continuously recognized for our outstanding wine program,” shared Rebecca Selesky, assistant vice president of MSU Culinary Services. “The award is a symbol of our commitment to providing guests with a well-rounded experience, including a diverse selection of wines to pair with State Room cuisine.”

Recipients of the Best of Award of Excellence display exceptional breadth across multiple wine-growing regions and/or significant vertical depth of top producers, along with superior presentation. Wine Spectator’s special Restaurant Awards issue becomes available on July 12.
