I'm Nick, and I am a Spartan

AND I AM A SPARTAN.

Nick Carlier began his first year at Michigan State University in the fall of 2020, when the pandemic caused the university to switch to remote learning. Now a sophomore studying human biology, Carlier is taking advantage of all campus has to offer.

“I made the decision to move into the dorms the spring of my freshman year,” says Carlier. “With moving into the dorms, I got to meet people from my classes in person for the first time. To this day, I still talk to these people on a daily basis. This was one of my best MSU memories.”

A proven chemistry whiz, Carlier’s professors in Lyman Briggs College encouraged him to become an Undergraduate Learning Assistant, helping with class preparation and learning exercises.

“My appointment to this position reflects how much I have learned in one year of general chemistry. I am honored to be part of other students’ learning processes, as I am able to facilitate and push their learning further. I am able to help them find the success that I once did.”

Carlier, a Korean American, is also proud of what he stands for.

“I am proud of the person I am, and I find that my own personal identity motivates my values. I value acceptance greatly. It is one of my absolute core values. I find that it is crucial that people feel accepted and safe in a society, or in this case, a university campus.”
