The week in photos: Nov. 21–27, 2022

By: Kelsie Lane

Michigan State University is beautiful at every time of day, but there’s nothing quite like campus architecture accompanied by the pale rays of early morning light or the wild hues brought on by the last hint of sunlight in the evening. In this special edition of the Week in Photos, we’re taking a moment to enjoy the majesty of campus, from sunrise to sunset.

While sunrise brings beautiful hues to the skies over campus, here on the ground there’s nothing that compares to the bright pink lights emanating from the MSU Plant Science Research Greenhouse Facility. The lights are part of a project to bring technology to campus that reduces energy consumption and powers research that helps Michigan farmers. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.

The dawn of a new day is an opportunity to bring great ideas to light, especially at MSU IQ, the Institute for Quantitative Health Sciences and Engineering. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.

As the sun rises over Munn Pinetum, silhouetted trees frame a display of colorful stripes of purple and orange sky. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
While snow and winter grays replace the vibrant palette of autumn, sunrise over the Red Cedar River adds a warm glow to an otherwise silvery scene. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
As we approach some of the longest nights of the year, there’s no need to fear: The Spartan dutifully watches over campus no matter the time of day. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
The silhouette of a bull, one of the animal sculptures created by artist Jim Cunningham that reside in front of the College of Veterinary Medicine, appears like strokes of calligraphy in the early morning. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
