Welcoming students to their campus home

Spartan Employee Spotlight – Residence Education and Housing Services

By: Kevin Epling, Melody Kindraka, Greg Kohuth

Sara Olsztyn is one of seven neighborhood administrative coordinators at Michigan State University. Coordinators manage the service centers in each of the residence halls and on-campus apartment communities, many of which are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They oversee keys, mail, check-out items, card-swipe access and the logistical operations of the building, as well as manage a team of student employees.

The service center teams are the first point of contact for students and their families during move-in. Coordinators make sure room keys are matched to the correct student and that after-hours building access is only given to residents. They also manage the storage and delivery of thousands of packages sent prior to move-in filled with all the things students need to make their rooms a home.
