Fall 2021 Spartan Day of Service to be held Oct. 16

Spartan Day of Service is one of the many ways Michigan State University prepares students for lifelong community engagement. Through the MSU Alumni Office and in partnership with the Center for Community Engaged Learning and LiveOn, a hybrid of both in-person and virtual service opportunities is available for the 2021-22 academic year.

This year’s first Spartan Day of Service will be held on Oct. 16. The fall event will provide students the opportunity to make an impact in the greater Lansing area. The university has partnered with local community schools, nonprofits, parks and recreation departments to provide projects that will have an immediate impact in the community. Projects range from helping at Potter Park Zoo to playground clean-up to helping decorate for Halloween. For those who would rather serve virtually, hybrid projects will be available as well.

In-person volunteer opportunities will be offered in compliance with host organization, state, local and MSU COVID-19 protocols. Volunteer opportunities include a program T-shirt, mask, round trip transportation, a light breakfast and a boxed lunch.

The full schedule for the 2021-22 Spartan Days of Service is:

  • Fall Day of Service, Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021
  • Celebrating Black History Month through Service, Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022
  • Global Day of Service, Saturday, April 9, 2022

All student projects are designated with a “Student Project” badge and are only available to students. Registration for these projects is conducted in partnership with the Center for Community Engaged Learning.

Student groups, organizations and programs are welcome. If a group would like to serve together at a designated project, the Center for Community Engaged Learning will work to make arrangements. Opportunities to serve as a site leader are available as well.
