Lars Brudvig, associate professor of plant biology in the College of Natural Science, sorts through the seedlings that will be planted. “A lot of the animals that we could support on campus rely on native plants, like bees, and butterflies, and other pollinators,” he said. “Being pollinator-supporting plants, they all have really showy flowers, advertisements for pollinators,” Brudvig said. “There are going to be a whole bunch of beautiful and spectacular flowers as this area matures.” Photo by Nick Schrader.

Spartans threw a birthday party on Wednesday for everyone’s favorite statue. The original ceramic Spartan, dedicated in 1945, turned 76 last week.

At the original dedication, then-MSU president John Hannah said, “In the years ahead, this Spartan warrior in this beautiful and proper setting will become one of the distinguishing marks of this campus that all students and visitors will associate with this college…” and 76 years later, we think he couldn’t have been more correct.
