Allison Zahorec, a doctoral student in the Department of Entomology, was awarded a prestigious pre-doctoral fellowship by the National Science Foundation.
Zahorec will research soil microarthropods in bioenergy cropland and their contributions to soil’s ability to store carbon and lessen climate warming.
“Soil communities and their function have been considered ecological black boxes. We have an idea of what is going in and coming out from them, but a poor understanding of how they work,” Zahorec said. Read more.
