MSU online graduate programs ranked highly by U.S. News & World Report

In its 2020 ranking for online graduate programs, U.S. News & World Report ranked three of Michigan State University’s participating online graduate programs in the top 20 and four specific disciplinary areas in the top 10.

MSU’s graduate program in the College of Education improved one spot and is now ranked no. 4 nationally – its highest placement for online rankings to date.

2020 marks the first year that U.S. News & World Report included specific disciplinary areas in its online education program rankings. MSU’s College of Education graduate programs place highly in all four areas: educational administration and supervision is no. 1, curriculum and instruction is no. 2, special education is no. 7 and educational/instructional media design ranks no. 10.

“These top rankings are evidence that students in our graduate programs, both online and face-to-face, gain knowledge and skills that enable them to excel in their fields of practice,” said Robert Floden, dean of the College of Education and University Distinguished Professor. “We take pride in recruiting students who come prepared to learn and leave prepared to lead.”

MSU’s online criminal justice program maintained its No. 10 positions, which it has held since 2017. The program ranked no. 26 in 2015 and has since climbed – and stayed – in the top 10.

The Eli Broad College of Business’ online non-MBA graduate programs secured the no. 17 spot on the national ranking – an improvement of six places and its second-highest placement to date. The Broad College’s programs have jumped nearly 50 positions since 2015.

“With certainty and intention, we work to improve our programs to meet our students’ ever-changing needs,” said Sanjay Gupta, the Eli and Edythe L. Broad dean. “This ranking not only reflects our commitment to delivering the best online programs but also how our high-caliber students achieve success upon graduation.”
