Internationally-acclaimed percussion artists visit Wharton Center

Prepare for the high-energy performance that is "DRUM TAO 2020," featuring the ancient art of Japanese drumming. The internationally-acclaimed percussion artists DRUM TAO are bringing their latest production, "DRUM TAO 2020," to Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall for one night only, at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13.

This combination of highly physical, large-scale drumming with contemporary costumes, precise choreography and innovative visuals creates an unforgettable production.

"DRUM TAO 2020" will feature the powerful and dramatic Wadaiko-Japanese Taiko drums, which sound like rumbling thunder, and mesmerizing melodies of Japanese flutes and harps.

This entertainment for a new generation will surpass expectations. These performers are true athletes who constantly train to go beyond human limitation.

Chicago Tribune says DRUM TAO are “extraordinarily talented percussion artists, and seductive, alluring performers.”

More than 8 million spectators in over 26 countries have been touched by DRUM TAO since the ensemble formed in 1993. Composed of three different teams touring internationally, the company performs 700 shows yearly.

TAO received the 6th Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner’s Awards from Japan Tourism Agency and Outstanding Cultural Contribution from Oita prefecture.
