On its 2021 Best Global Universities ranking, U.S. News & World Report ranked Michigan State University among the top 100 institutions worldwide and in the top 50 in the United States.
U.S. News & World Report ranked 1,500 universities across 86 countries. Universities were scored based on a number of variables, most of which related to research publications.
U.S. News also compared global universities across 38 subject areas to determine the fields in which schools excel. Twenty-seven of MSU’s programs ranked globally – up from 21 ranked programs in 2020.
MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, represented by the field Plant and Animal Science, remains one of the university’s highest ranked programs, improving one spot to No. 7 in the world. Agricultural Sciences is MSU’s second-highest ranked field, at No. 22.
Also included the top 50 fields worldwide are Economics and Business, which improved seven spots to No. 29; Environment and Ecology, which ranked No. 39; and Social Sciences and Public Health, which ranked No. 48.
