Ariana Negreiro: Finding passion through research (EDIT NEEDED)

Ariana Negreiro is a graduate student in the department of animal science within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Originally, I came to Michigan State because I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian. After coming here and taking a few of the animal science classes, it really opened my eyes to how much science is involved in it, which I never would have imagined.

I decided to become an animal science major and worked at the Dairy Farm for a little bit, and I just fell in love with dairy cows.

Without the research experience, I don't think I would have found this passion. I would not have had all these questions or had these opportunities presented to me.

I have been able to go out to the farm and do all the sampling. I've been in the lab running the analysis. I've been able to go to conferences and talk to different professors and industry professionals.

A huge thing that I never expected I'd be able to do is run my own study. That was a really great opportunity that I didn't think I would ever be able to have. Most of what I know about nutrition is due to this.

Professionally, it's been a huge plus. It taught me how to communicate and how to be responsible for a whole load of things. I think that's made my education so much better, and I think that's pretty unique to Michigan State.

My favorite part of it is the community. It's a teamwork environment — we all interact and help each other out. It's like a second family.

I found my passion through it. I found my future career goals, and I have a set area I want to work in.

It's what every parent tells their kid: find something you love to do so work isn't work.
