Homecoming Parade cancelled due to inclement weather

Due to forecasts from the National Weather Service that indicate strong thunderstorms and lightning in the Lansing area this afternoon and evening, the Michigan State University Homecoming Parade has been canceled.

The parade was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and last for approximately one hour. Michigan State University Police Department, working in conjunction with the East Lansing Police Department, evaluated the weather forecasts and determined hazardous conditions due to lightning, heavy rain and strong winds could be a threat to public safety.

“While we’re disappointed to not have the parade this evening as part of our Homecoming festivities, public safety is our top concern and this was a necessary decision,” said MSUPD Capt. Doug Monette. “We hope our alumni, campus and community stay safe tonight and into the weekend.”

The parade will not be rescheduled.
