Annual dinosaur dash returns Oct. 6

The Michigan State University Museum will host the 34th annual MSU Federal Credit Union Dinosaur Dash from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 6.

The fast, flat 5K is a fall-time favorite and a long-time benefit for the MSU Museum. After the race, celebrate National Fossil Day with a full line-up of family fossil fun activities.

Dashers compete in several different divisions and dinosaur trophies are awarded to overall male and female winners in both the running and walking categories.

There are three special runs designed for the younger crowd; the Museum Mile for youths 12 years and under to run or walk a one-mile loop, the Mini-Dash is an all-out 200-yard sprint for kids 6 years and under, and the Diaper Dash is designed for the youngest of dashers, along with their parents and companions. All participants receive an official Dinosaur Dash medal.

Registration prices vary depending on age and T-shirt styles selected. All registration fees include a quality short-sleeved T-shirt, post-race food including ice cream from the MSU Dairy Store and a donation that supports the MSU Museum's educational programs.

New this year, celebrate National Fossil Day at the MSU Museum from 12-4 p.m. National Fossil Day is a celebration organized by The National Park Service and the American Geosciences Institute to promote public awareness and stewardship of fossils, as well as to foster a greater appreciation of their scientific and educational value.

Registration forms are available at MSUFCU branches, Playmakers on Grand River Avenue in Okemos and at the MSU Museum.
