Soweto Gospel Choir to perform at Wharton

The Wharton Center for Performing Arts will host the Soweto Gospel Choir at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 18.

The two-time Grammy Award-winning choir is known for the power of its African gospel music and has been performing for nearly two decades.

It has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music, including U2, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Robert Plant, Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Josh Groban. This year, the group collaborated with three-time Grammy Award winner Chance The Rapper at his sold-out concert at the Dome in Johannesburg.

For the first half of this concert, the choir will perform “Songs of the Free,” a program celebrating the centenary of the birth of the Nelson Mandela. Following that, the performers will share international gospel classics including their take on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

Tickets are on sale now and available at Wharton Center’s official ticketing outlets: online at whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office at Wharton Center or by calling (800) WHARTON.
