The Michigan State University Greek community has announced a partnership with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on March 28, as a part of its 2018 Greek Week philanthropic efforts. The Red Cross blood drive, open to students and the community, will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the MSU Union Ballroom.
"The American Red Cross is thankful and impressed with the MSU Greek Community," said Jeff Smith, account manager. "Its blood drive collects more blood than any other blood drive at MSU."
According to Smith, the annual MSU Greek Week blood drive is the largest in the mid-Michigan region. This is MSU Greek Life's ninth year of partnership with the American Red Cross. Smith noted that over these nine years, MSU Greek Life has collected over 1,500 units of blood and has saved up to 4,500 lives.
"We are so honored to such make a difference in our local community," said Ellie Small, director of MSU Greek Week. "Partnering with the American Red Cross is such a rewarding experience because we have the potential to truly change and saves lives."
MSU Greek Week is the highlight of the year for Greek Life. Beginning in January each year, one sorority and one large and small fraternity come together to form a Greek Week team. Each team then competes against one another in activities and fundraising to raise money for different philanthropic partners.
