Michigan State University College of Human Medicine will host the Maximizing Function and Ability in Cerebral Palsy conference on April 19. The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in MSU’s Radiology Building. It will feature presentations by clinicians, scientists and community members from across the state and beyond.
The event is organized by the Cerebral Palsy Outreach Network, a collaboration of MSU, Wayne State University and the University of Michigan, as well as the Michigan departments of Education and Health and Human Services.
The all-day conference will include several presentations on the latest research into cerebral palsy, which causes lifelong motor disability and originates from injury to the brain before, during or after birth. The disorder affects about two of every 1,000 school children.
Two local high school students - one with cerebral palsy - will present their “A Chance to Dance” project with an award-winning ballroom dance performance at 4:30 p.m., after scientific presentations.
