‘Disney Musicals in Schools’ coming to Wharton Center

Disney Musicals in Schools” is returning to Wharton Center for its fourth year of creating magic with Michigan students and teachers. The program is an outreach initiative that develops sustainable musical theater programs in under-resourced, public elementary schools.

Each of the elementary schools chosen for the program will participate in a 17-week musical theater residency, with the school team partnering with a Wharton Center teaching artist. Throughout the rehearsal process, the school team will learn to direct and choreograph their cast of third, fourth and fifth grade students in their first school musical.

In order to be chosen for the program, an elementary school must be designated Title One and must have staff dedicated to building a sustainable program at their school. Wharton Center carefully selected six eligible schools for the 2018 program. The chosen schools are:

  • Lyons Elementary – Lansing
  • Delton-Kellogg Elementary and Middle School – Delton
  • Michener Elementary – Adrian
  • Genesee STEM Academy – Flint
  • Dailey Elementary – Mt Morris
  • Grand Blanc Academy – Grand Blanc
