In light of concerns both nationally and internationally, MSU Police are stepping up security efforts for campus events, including a no-bag policy for all events at indoor athletic facilities, effective with Midnight Madness at the Breslin Center on Oct. 20.
Those efforts also will include a more visible police presence at high-profile events such as home football games.
The no-bag policy, similar to the one already in effect for football games, means all bags such as purses, large bags, camera and binocular cases, and other similar bags, are prohibited at all events at indoor athletic facilities, including the Breslin Center and Munn Ice Arena. Those with medical supply needs can enter an indoor facility via any gate to have their bags searched and tagged (for football games at Spartan Stadium, those with medical supply needs should continue to enter through gates C or K). Those with other personal needs (for example, diapers) should put those items in a clear, gallon-sized bag and can enter through any gate.
Though there have been no specific threats made, police, athletic and campus leaders want to remind members of the MSU community to always remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. If you see something, say something; it is always better to be safe.
