MSU Leadership and Impact

Nov. 28, 2017

MSU faculty members recognized among the world’s most highly cited researchers

Six Michigan State University faculty members have earned a spot on the Clarivate Analytics highly cited researchers list for 2017.

This year’s list honors approximately 3,400 scientists from around the globe who have been most cited by their peers and are considered to be among the world’s most highly influential scientific minds. The list is based on analysis of peer-reviewed research paper and manuscript citations between 2005 and 2015 in 21 broad natural and social science disciplines.

Researchers named to the prestigious list are:

James Cole, director of the Ribosomal Database Project in the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The database helps to provide ribosome related data services to the scientific community.

Kalyanmoy Deb, Koenig Endowed Chair Professor for Electrical and Computer Engineering. Deb researches multi-objective optimization using evolutionary algorithms, solving complex problems across a range of fields involving trade-offs between conflicting preferences.

Sheng Yang He, University Distinguished Professor, HHMI-GBMF Investigator and a member of the MSU-DOE Plant Research Lab. He studies the molecular biology of plant-pathogen interactions to gain insights into some of the basic principles underlying bacterial pathogenesis and disease susceptibility in plants.

Gregg Howe, MSU Foundation professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a member of the MSU-DOE Plant Research Lab. Howe investigates how plants respond to insect herbivory and other forms of wound stress.

John Ohlrogge, professor emeritus and University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Plant Biology and member of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center. Ohlrogge conducts research to understand how plants control the activity of fatty acid synthesis and lipid metabolism pathways.

Jeffrey Wooldridge, University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Economics. Wooldridge analyzes cross-sectional and panel data to better understand and explain econometrics and studies financing and economics as it relates to education, including effects of class size, teacher quality and spending on student performance.
