MSU and Lansing collaborate for annual celebration of César E. Chávez

Michigan State University, the City of Lansing and Lansing Community College are joining forces to honor the life and work of labor leader and civil rights activist César E. Chávez.

The seventh annual César E. Chávez Commemorative Celebration is scheduled for April 7. The celebration will begin with the Chávez Community and Student Leadership Luncheon scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in Big Ten Room B and C.

Neal Sales-Griffin, president and CEO of Code Now, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. Other featured speakers will include:

• Mayor Virg Bernero, City of Lansing

• Guillermo Lopez, Board of Education Trustee, Lansing School District

• Dalinda Martinez, MSU HALE, NISTS Dissertation of the Year

Following the luncheon, the Chávez Community Unity March will leave the Kellogg Center and march to MSU’s Beaumont Tower from 1:35 to 2:30 p.m.
