To commemorate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., Michigan State University has a variety of programs in which the MSU and greater Lansing communities are encouraged to participate Jan. 15-16.
The theme of the 37th annual commemorative celebration is “The Art of Nonconformity: Dissent and Civil Discourse.”
Following are some of the main Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemorative events taking place at MSU.
Jan. 15
- "Jazz: Spirituals, Prayer and Protest Concerts" hosted and performed by the Professors of Jazz and Jazz ensemble at the College of Music
3 p.m., 7 p.m. Fairchild Theater, MSU Auditorium
Jan. 16
- Service Learning Project and Resource Fair
9 a.m., MSU Union, Room 50
Joint the discussion about some of the social justice issues facing the community and create your #BreakTheSilence poster. Sponsored by the Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement.
- Student Leadership Conference
10 a.m., MSU Union, Ballroom
Open to all college and high school students.

- Commemorative March

Sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Mosaic Multicultural Unity Center and University Activities Board.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Jan. 16. Classes are canceled, but the university remains open.
