Lee Anne Roman, a College of Human Medicine professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology, has been honored by the March of Dimes for her many years of teaching and research dedicated to improving the health of women and their children.
Roman is the March of Dimes 2017 Impact Award Recipient and was presented with the award on Nov. 6 during the March of Dimes of Greater Michigan’s Signature Chefs Auction at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. Money raised by the auction, featuring signature dishes by prominent chefs, will support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit family support programs and advocacy efforts for moms and babies.
In announcing this year’s award, the March of Dimes noted that “Dr. Roman has distinguished herself and dedicated her life to a sustained record of selfless teaching, service and pioneering research at Michigan State University.”
Roman has described her work as “engaged scholarship,” since its goal always is to improve the health of people in Michigan and nationally. She has overseen countless studies aimed to eliminating socio-economic and ethnic health disparities in collaboration with Strong Beginnings, Spectrum Health, Cherry Health, the Kent County Health Department, Arbor Circle, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and other partners.
