Max Chappuis, a program coordinator in the Office of Study Abroad, won the New Professional Award on Oct. 27 at this year’s Region V conference of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, held in Milwaukee.
The New Professional Award recognizes an individual in the region who is new to the field of international education and who has made an outstanding contribution to international education through his or her enthusiasm, potential for leadership and actual accomplishments at his or her institution or community and Region V.
Chappuis was nominated by his colleagues based on his professionalism and passion for the field of education abroad and his strong work ethic and dedication to students.
“We are delighted Max was honored with the New Professional Award,” said Anthony Ogden, MSU’s executive director of education abroad and exchanges. “Max exemplifies the best in what it means to be an international educator today. I’m very proud of him and look forward to watching his career develop and progress over the coming years.”
NAFSA is the world’s largest nonprofit association dedicated to international education and exchange. Its membership in the United States is organized into 11 geographic regions. Region V comprises Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin and has approximately 800 members representing more than 250 institutions.
Chappuis joined MSU’s Office of Study Abroad in 2014 from Florida State University. He began his career specializing in United Kingdom and Ireland programming and is currently transitioning to managing programs offered in partnership with College of Arts & Letters and College of Music.
He also serves on the NAFSA Consular Affairs Liaison Subcommittee for the U.K. and on the Michigan Association of International Educators Education Abroad Knowledge Community.
