Summer day camp offered at W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary

Beginning July 6, MSU’s W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary near Augusta, Michigan is offering four one-week summer day camp sessions focusing on the earth’s environment and the ecology of plants and animals.

The W.K. Kellogg Biological Station’s summer day camps are led by MSU Extension educators, undergraduate students and sanctuary staff. Campers participate in hands-on activities while exploring diverse habitats such as wetlands, forests, prairies and lakes.

Kids Being Scientists Camp is open to children entering first through sixth grades. The three sessions being offered are Earth Explorers, July 6-10; Aquatic Adventurers, July 20-24; and Winged Wonders, July 27-31. Sessions run Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Leadership Camp is open to children entering seventh and eighth grades and is offered from July 13-17. Campers participate in leadership and communication-building activities, and connect with nature through fishing, swimming, canoeing and science. Campers will also have an overnight camping experience where they will gain skills in setting up tents, building fires, and cooking meals.
