Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and Broad College of Business will begin a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Business Administration joint degree in fall semester 2015.
The joint D.O./MBA is a response to the changing landscape of healthcare and the need for physician leaders.
“Now is a perfect time for Michigan State University to offer an opportunity for incoming students to obtain the D.O./MBA degree,” said Donald Sefcik, senior associate dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. “A primary goal of the program is to produce osteopathic physicians who will help shape the future of healthcare through designing, monitoring and continually improving patient outcomes.”
The MBA portion of the degree specializes in management, strategy and leadership, while providing foundational management skills required for organization leaders. The program is designed to be completed in five years.
“Healthcare leaders with both the MBA and the D.O. degree are particularly well-equipped with an understanding of how to deliver quality patient care while insuring the organization’s financial viability and future,” said Glenn Omura, acting associate dean of MBA and Professional Masters Programs at the Broad College of Business.
