A long-standing collaboration between the Michigan State University College of Engineering and Consumers Energy will be celebrated this Friday.
At 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of MSU’s Wilson Hall a newly refurbished lobby area will be dedicated. The work was made possible by a $200,000 donation from Consumers Energy.
The space will be part of the college’s Cornerstone and Residential Experience program. The newly designed space is decorated with colorful circles and geometric patterns and offers students a gathering space with charging stations and other furnishings to encourage studying and socializing.
CoRE is an integrated first-year engineering academic program and living-learning community that works to “build the whole engineer.”
MSU and Consumers Energy have had a long and fruitful relationship. Last year more than 50 MSU students interned at Consumers Energy. In all, more than 400 alumni work full-time for the energy company.
Among those taking part in the ribbon-cutting event are June Pierce Youatt, MSU provost and executive vice president for academic affairs; Satish Udpa, MSU executive vice president for administrative services; Leo Kempel, dean of the College of Engineering; and John Butler, senior vice president of human resources and shared services for Consumers Energy.
