MSU-based center focus of Google Hangout

A Michigan State University-based center that studies the origin of the elements that make up our universe will be the focus of an upcoming Google Hangout.

The hour-long event is at 2 p.m. Thursday and is hosted by the National Science Foundation Physics Division.

Participants are all affiliated with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics Center for Evolution of the Elements, also known as JINA-CEE. The program is funded by the NSF and is one of the NSF’s Physics Frontiers Centers.

Center director Hendrik Schatz, an MSU professor affiliated with the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, will be a part of the Hangout. Other participants include Frank Timmes and Carl Fields from Arizona State, and Timothy Beers and Micha Kilburn from Notre Dame.

Moderating will be Greg Mack, AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the NSF Physics Division.

This Google Hangout is open to the public and gives participants a chance to learn about the recent research going on at JINA-CEE, as well as other cutting edge science issues.

For more information, or to participate in the hangout, visit http://www.jinaweb.org/events/jina-hangout.html.
