Michigan 4-H to host annual Evening in the Garden

With summer days winding down and school right around the corner, it is more important than ever to get children excited about learning. Make the transition a little easier and a lot more fun by attending 4-H Evening in the Garden from 4 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 20.

This free event will feature numerous hands-on activities for children such as the science of bubbles, and activities in 4-H project areas such as science and robotics, gardening, small animals and livestock, entomology and performing arts. There will also be a book giveaway.

“It is the perfect way to enjoy the Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden and explore hands-on activities,” said MSU Extension program leader Sheila Smith. “The 4-H Evening in the Garden event is also a great opportunity for children and their parents to learn about 4-H and how to become involved.”

A program of MSU Extension, 4-H provides more than 200,000 youth with exciting learning opportunities that also help them develop critical life skills. Those who attend Evening in the Garden will be able to meet 4-H members, volunteers and staff members and learn what kinds of 4-H programs are available in their area. Young people between the ages of 5 and 19 are encouraged to join 4-H, and adults of any age are welcome to become 4-H volunteers.

4-H Evening in the Garden will be held at the Michigan 4-H Children's Garden at MSU. Complimentary parking will be available in the 4-H garden lot and across the street in the Vet Clinic lot.
