Doctoral candidate selected for national sports psychology position

Eric Martin, MSU doctoral candidate in kinesiology, has been elected student representative for the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, an international professional organization that promotes the field of sport psychology. He assumed office at the organization’s recent annual conference in Las Vegas. The executive board position includes promoting AASP at the student level and organizing several student-led initiatives.

Martin teaches courses and conducts research focused on youth sports. He also provides applied consulting services for a varsity team at the university. He completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Colorado State University where he was a University Honors Scholar and earned his master’s degree in sport behavior and performance from Miami University.

As an active member of AASP since his first conference in 2008, Martin has been a student delegate since 2011 and has served as a student representative for the AASP Graduate Program Committee. He has also served on the editorial board of “Performance Excellence Movement,” a yearly newsletter, where he was chair the past two years.
