CATA service changes to launch Aug. 25

As students prepare to return to class, CATA will implement numerous schedule changes on Aug. 25.

Spartan Service - the additional service provided during MSU fall and spring semesters - resumes on MSU’s campus and on routes 1, 25, 26 and Entertainment Express. Route 23 will also begin providing additional trips between 2 and 6:30 p.m. when MSU is in session.

Significant changes have been made to the following routes:

  • Route 1: Downtown Lansing/Meridian Mall-Monday through Saturday service frequencies will increase to every 9 minutes. Noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday service frequencies will increase to every 16 minutes throughout the day during Spartan Service periods.
  • Route 5: South Cedar/Edgewood-Monday through Saturday time adjustments will result in earlier departures of 2 to 4 minutes. Sunday service frequencies will increase to every 30 minutes throughout the day as service starts 35 minutes earlier.
  • Route 8: Pennsylvania/Holt-departures will be adjusted by as much as 7 minutes throughout the week.
  • Route 10: North Lansing/Turner-Monday through Friday new departure times will be in effect until 5:15 p.m. as the frequency of service changes to every 25 or 50 minutes. Minor time adjustments will also be made to the Saturday and Sunday trips departing Gier and North East.
  • Route 12 W. Michigan/Waverly/LCC West-The route will travel to LCC West campus Monday-Friday during fall and spring semesters. When serving LCC West, weekday buses will run every 30 or 60 minutes depending on the time of day. Four new bus stops will be located along the extended route to serve customers. During LCC breaks and holidays, buses will run every 45 minutes most of the day and evening.
  • Route 16: W. Lake Lansing Road/Eastwood Towne Center-A change in routing at the Lake Lansing Meijer will have buses traveling Coolidge, Abbey and Marfitt before heading to the Meijer boarding area. Time adjustments will occur throughout the week at Meijer and at the CATA Transportation Center.
  • Route 20: South Harrison/Jolly/Dunckel-Buses will only travel into Spartan Village during MSU breaks and holidays when campus service does not operate. Route 20 will no longer travel on Technology Boulevard, Alliance Drive or past the Post Office on Collins Rd. Service frequencies will increase to every 60 minutes Monday through Friday evenings starting at 6 p.m. and throughout the weekend.
  • Route 23: MSU/Okemos/Haslett-When MSU is in session, Monday through Friday buses will run every 25 minutes between 2 and 6:30 p.m. Service will resume the 35-45 minute frequency during this time period when MSU is not in session. All buses will depart Meridian Mall 5 minutes later.
  • Route 25: North Harrison-Buses will no longer serve Eastwood Towne Center or run west of Lake Lansing Meijer. The route will travel north of Lake Lansing Road and use Abbot, Chandler and Coleman roads to and from Meijer. There will be changes in departure times at Meijer.

Spartan Service:

  • Route 30: South & East Neighborhoods and 31-Brody/East Neighborhoods-Buses will no longer be interlined and will not change route numbers. Minor adjustments in the frequency of service will occur on both routes.
  • Route 32: Commuter Lot/Clinical Center-Buses will serve the MSU Clinical Center on all outbound trips departing the MSU-CATA Transportation Center at Ramp 1.
  • Route 39: University Village/Spartan Village-Minor time adjustments will occur at Spartan Village as buses depart 1-3 minutes earlier.

There are also minor adjustments to Routes 2, 3, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 22 and 24. There will be no changes to Routes 6, 14, 26, 33-36, 46, 48 or Entertainment Express.

Details of all service changes on and off campus are available online at cata.org and at CATA facilities. Customers may access new bus schedules online, on buses, at schedule racks throughout the area, and at CATA Transportation Centers in downtown Lansing and Parking Ramp No. 1 on the MSU campus.

A more detailed print schedule with departure times for key timepoints has been published for each route. Stop-by-stop departures continue to be available online at cata.org. Customers can also access real-time bus departures with CATAnow, a new free service that only requires a bus stop number and a mobile device or computer. Instructions on how to use CATAnow are available at catanow.org.
