MSU’s Eli Broad College of Business has named Michael McCall director of The School of Hospitality Business effective Jan. 1, 2015.
“Mike brings strong credentials that will put the future of The School in good hands,” said acting dean of the Broad College Sanjay Gupta. “His significant experience in hospitality business will enable him to build on The School’s strong reputation.”
McCall is chair of the Department of Marketing and Law and a professor at the Ithaca College School of Business. He also is a visiting scholar and research fellow at the Center for Hospitality Research in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University.
He teaches in the areas of consumer behavior, marketing management for services and pricing. His research focuses on the role of customer reward programs, strategies for creating customer loyalty, rebate programs and perceptions of price and value among competing hospitality and service products.
McCall has been published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Socio-Economics, and the Cornell Hospital Quarterly. He serves on the editorial board of the Service Industries Journal and the Journal of Applied Marketing Theory and consults with a variety of service organizations on marketing strategy, pricing, brand loyalty, and methods for increasing customer evaluations of value.
He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from Arizona State University and his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
McCall will also hold the National Automatic Merchandising Association Professorship in Hospitality Business in the Broad College. Michael Kasavana, the current NAMA Endowed Professor, will retire Dec. 31.
McCall will succeed Ron Cichy, who is stepping down on Aug. 15 after serving as director of The School since 1988.
Bonnie Knutson, professor of hospitality business, will serve as acting director of The School effective Aug. 16.
