W.J. Beal Botanical Garden celebrates 140th birthday

The W. J. Beal Botanical Garden is celebrating its 140th birthday.

A celebration open house will be held rain or shine in the garden from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28. Apple cider, apples and donuts will be provided. Information about the botanic garden, its founder, professor Beal and its history will be presented. Tours of the garden will be provided.

Lauren Olson, education coordinator for Campus Sustainability, will provide a natural dyeing demonstration every hour, using plants such as black walnut and golden rod.

The botanic garden is located at 330 West Circle Dr. Parking on campus on Saturday is free except for marked registered parking spaces.
