Trumpeter Jon Faddis to perform at Fairchild Theatre

The MSU College of Music welcomes Jon Faddis — jazz trumpeter, composer, educator and conductor — to campus Dec. 5-9. Faddis will teach students and perform as part of a five-day residency.

Faddis began playing the trumpet at age eight and joined Lionel Hampton’s band at age 18 before joining the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra as lead trumpet. By his early twenties, Faddis had become a notable musician in New York City and performed with Charles Mingus.

Faddis will perform with Jazz Orchestra I, directed by Rodney Whitaker, at 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the newly renovated Fairchild Theatre of the MSU Auditorium. The concert, “Nutcracker Swings and More,” will also feature the music of Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and free to students with ID and those less than 18 years of age. Tickets are available over the phone at (517) 353-5340, online at music.msu.edu, in person in room 102 of the Music Building or at the door one hour before the show.
