Teaching tomorrow's leaders

Training is underway this spring for 2013 Fellows of MSU’s Michigan Political Leadership Program.

The two dozen Fellows met as a group for the first time in mid-February, getting to know each other and forging the bipartisan bonds that help mark Michigan Political Leadership Program as one of the nation¹s top political leadership training fellowships.

Michigan Political Leadership Program Fellows meet 10 months during the program that's designed to grant emerging leaders the tools they need to run for office. Their weekend training sessions focus on campaign nuts and bolts, ranging from finance and media relations to the rudiments of good governing.

“Fourteen Michigan Political Leadership Program alumni are now serving in the Michigan House of Representatives,” said Steve Tobocman, Michigan Political Leadership Program co-director and former House Majority Floor Leader, the chamber¹s second-highest position.

Typically, MPLP Fellows are equally divided between Democrats and Republicans. This year’s Fellows include 11 Republicans, 10 Democrats, two who identify themselves as independents and one who identifies herself as an Independent/Democrat.
