North Central Regional Center for Rural Development offers free webinar series

The North Central Regional Center for Rural Development, based at the Michigan State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will sponsor a series of four webinars entitled “Innovations in Agriculture and Rural Development.”

The first webinar, “Thermal Aid: Managing Heat Stress in Cattle,” is slated for 3 p.m. Feb. 12.

Don Spiers, professor of environmental physiology at the University of Missouri, will speak on behalf of Thermal Aid, a smart phone application that combines information on weather and/or respiration rate of livestock that allows producers to make decisions about environmental stress and animal welfare. Additionally, Thermal Aid is a learning device that attracts and stimulates student interest in climate and environmental stress related to themselves and their production animals.

The free online workshops are designed for business owners and entrepreneurs in agriculture- related industries to learn more about land-grant university-developed technology that is relevant to current and future business operations.

Registration for each webinar will be open until the day of the event. To register and get information about accessing the free webinar, go here or contact Rosa Soliz at 517-355-3373 or soliz@msu.edu.

Other webinars in the series are:

“Farm-based Biocontrol Seed Treatments for Improving Soybean Yields,” March 28.

“Biodiesel Production and Water Capture from Swine Waste,” April 26.
