MSU talent to be showcased at Carnegie Hall

MidAmerica Productions will present three concerts in Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium at 8:30 p.m. March 17 and 1 and 8 p.m. March 31. MSU will be represented at the March 17 performance.

The performances are as follows:

8:30 p.m., March 17

Michigan State University's David Rayl conducts the New England Symphonic Ensemble in Fauré’s Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, with soloists Jennifer Forni, soprano; and Gustavo Feulien, baritone. Participating choruses include St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Chancel Choir, Tucson, Ariz.; Abilene High School Singers, Kan.; Edsel Ford High School Chamber Choir, Dearborn, Mich.; Michigan State University Choral Union, East Lansing, Mich; St. John Collegiate Ensemble, East Lansing, Mich.; Como Park High School Choir, St. Paul, Minn.; Carl Junction High School Chorus, Mo.; Anderson High School Mixed Chorus, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Purcell High School Jazz Choir, Okla.

The second portion of the performance will consist of John Rutter’s Requiem, conducted by Stephen Holcomb, with soprano soloist Jennifer Forni. Participating choruses include Midway College Chorale, Ky.; West Milford Township High School Concert Choir, N.J.; Albuquerque Academy Upper School Chorus, N.M.; Dallas Baptist University Grand Chorus, Texas; and Dallas Baptist University, Texas.

Anderson High School Mixed Chorus, Cincinnati, Ohio, under the direction of Sandra Thornton, will perform as part of MidAmerica’s Ensemble Spotlight Series. Their program includes Ernani Aguiar’s “Salmo 150,” Rachmaninoff’s “Bogoroditse Devo,” Z. Randall Stroope’s “Omnia Sol,” John Rutter’s “Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind,” “J'entends Le Moulin” arranged by Donald Patriquin, Tudor Jarda’s “Ma luai, luai” (I Went up to the Meadow), and Hogan’s “My Soul's Been Anchored In the Lord.”

MidAmerica’s Ensemble Spotlight Series highlights three outstanding instrumental ensembles from Washington and South Carolina. The Redmond High School Mustang Symphony, Wash., under the direction of Paula Ferguson, will perform two movements of Vaughan Williams’ Concerto for String Orchestra; Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129; and two movements of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88.

8 p.m., March 31

Diane Retallack leads the New England Symphonic Ensemble and Eugene Concert Choir and Vocal Arts Ensemble, Ore., in Bruckner’s Mass No. 2 in E minor, WAB 27. Bruckner Mass, Hawaii and Missouri youth symphonies will also appear.
