Chemistry professor Melanie Cooper received the 2013 James Flack Norris Award.

The award is given to an accomplished chemistry teacher by the American Chemical Society.

Cooper is the first Lappan-Phillips Professor of Science Education at MSU. Her work focuses on helping students learn in large enrollment courses such as general organic chemistry.

Cooper came to MSU in January 2013 from Clemson University, where she was an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Chemistry. She is jointly appointed in the Departments of Chemistry and Teacher Education.
