MSU food truck wins award for signature burger

The Eat at State food truck was awarded top honors by the National Association of College and University Food Services.

The truck’s signature smoked cheddar cheeseburger took gold in the 2013 best local food recipe category. The award recognizes universities that use locally produced foods and ingredients in their menus.

The cheeseburger features MSU beef grown on campus. The beef is harvested at Ebels Meat Processing in Falmouth and processed at Byron Center Meats in Byron Center.

The burger also contains two MSU Dairy Store cheeses, MSU Smoked Cheddar and MSU Sharp Cheddar. Both cheeses are made from milk produced at MSU as well as local dairy farms.

The burger is topped with MSU student organic farm field greens, red onions and roma tomatoes. Culinary services partnered with Breadsmith of Okemos to produce the buns for the burger.

In addition to MSU’s own Smoked Cheddar Cheeseburger, the food truck offers local ingredients in other menu items as well as its daily specials.
