Demolition of Michigan State University’s Morrill Hall is set to begin May 6.
Originally built in 1900, the wooden structure has suffered irreparable deterioration. As a result, reconstruction and restoration of the facility were not deemed economically feasible.
The work is expected to be completed in August.
Once demolished, a site restoration project will get under way. That will include a terrace with green space, extensive landscaping; special paving, seat walls and piers that will hold commemorative plaques.
The plans were designed by teams of students from MSU’s School of Building, Design and Construction.
At its April meeting, the MSU Board of Trustees voted to rename Agriculture Hall the Justin T. Morrill Hall of Agriculture. A dedication event is being planned for fall of 2013.
