The Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan is preparing their 33rd annual rendition of "The Nutcracker" ballet.
Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 and 30 and again at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2. All shows will take place in the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.
The classical ballet in two acts is being produced and directed by Gregory M. George. The story follows the enchanting journey of a girl named Clara who receives a nutcracker as a Christmas Eve party gift. Her nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince who leads her to the Land of Sweets to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Among the ballet’s most famous moments are a battle between toy soldiers and overgrown mice, a Christmas tree that grows to huge heights and a shimmering snow scene. Director George also has created an original prologue which will include an outdoor Victorian winter street scene.
Tickets for "The Nutcracker" are on sale at www.cbtdance.org or by calling 1-800-Wharton.
