Broad College to host sessions on careers in analytics

The Broad College of Business at MSU is hosting several sessions for students and the public to learn more about career opportunities in the growing field of big data analysis.

“Analytics 2013: Career Paths in Analytics” will be held 1-4 p.m. March 15 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Education in Lansing. The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about educational opportunities and careers in analytics.

The event kicks off with an analytics career fair that features about 15 leading regional and international companies that employ professionals who manage and interpret data. The session is followed at 2 p.m. by a corporate panel discussion where industry experts will talk about the various careers and opportunities in big data management and what they are looking for in analytics professionals.

At 3 p.m., representatives from the business college will discuss the college’s new master of science program in business analytics. Launched in January, the one-year program prepares students to extract useful information from large data sets and then use the information to solve practical business problems. The program includes courses in data mining, applied statistics and project management, as well as hands-on projects with major corporations.
