Detroit officials are seeking Spartans for the Motor City Makeover to be held April 28. MSU is collaborating with Wayne State University to clean a portion of the "old" Belle Isle Zoo from 9 a.m. to noon.
Motor City Makeover is an annual spring-cleaning extravaganza that calls on volunteers to help make Detroit shine.
Only 50 volunteers per university are permitted on the clean-up site, and volunteers must supply their own tools, such as gloves, rakes, chain saws and blowers. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own refreshments and wear appropriate attire for removing heavy brush, over-grown weeds, fallen tree limbs, etc.
The beautification efforts will take place over three days. East-siders may clean on April 28, west-siders on May 12 and those in southwest Detroit, downtown and the central neighborhoods may volunteer on May 19.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear their green and white to show their Spartan pride.
