EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University will host convocation Friday, May 4, and spring commencement ceremonies this weekend for 7,095 degree candidates.
There are 4,929 undergraduate degree candidates. The College of Social Science has the most graduates with 1,015, followed by the Broad College of Business with 793 graduates.
Undergraduate convocation will be held at 1 p.m. at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center, One Birch Road, on the corner of Harrison Road and Kalamazoo Street. Mary Robinson, the first female president of Ireland, will speak and will receive an honorary doctorate of laws.
Also at that ceremony, MSU alumnus and philanthropist Robert Skandalaris will receive an honorary doctorate of business.
Convocation will be broadcast live on WKAR World and Interactive Video Services Channel 4, and will be live streamed at WKAR.org.
Later on May 4, Subra Suresh, director of the National Science Foundation, will address candidates for advanced degrees at 7 p.m. He will receive an honorary doctorate of science. Also at that ceremony, Emil Boc, who served as prime minister of Romania from 2008 to 2012, will receive an honorary doctorate of laws. The advanced degree ceremony also will be held at Breslin.
There are 2,166 advanced-degree candidates.
An additional 2,377 undergraduate and graduate students will graduate summer semester, but may walk during spring commencement ceremonies.

Media coverage
Media parking is available in the west side of Lot 63 off Harrison Road, immediately south of the Breslin Center. Media must obtain a parking pass from Media Communications. Passes may be picked up starting noon Thursday, May 3, at 408 W. Circle Drive, Room 403. This pass must be displayed to enter the lot.
Media should be credentialed and will be accommodated on Platform 111 (the first floor of Breslin Center), which is best accessed by using the ticket entrance on the east side of the building. Media must check in at the platform.
