Event strives to attract girls to science careers

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University is hosting an event designed to attract young girls to careers in science and math.

The Middle School Girls Math and Science Day runs from 8 a.m. to noon March 3 in MSU’s Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building. It is open to any and all middle school girls throughout mid-Michigan.

“It’s all very hands on,” said Luanna Prevost of Graduate Women in Science at MSU, which is hosting the event. “Our goal is to introduce young women to science in the hopes they will find a love for it and, eventually, a career in it.”

Participants will take part in a number of projects, including laboratory experiments, the study of bones, and investigation into how evolution and natural selection takes place.
