College of Law to exhibit work of photographer Brad Temkin

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University College of Law will host "Gardens...From The Backyard to Rooftops," an exhibit featuring the photography of Chicago artist Brad Temkin. The event will run through April.

A meet-and-greet with Temkin will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 13 on the 4th floor atrium of the Law College building, followed by a public talkback with Temkin at 6 p.m. in room 473 of the Law College building.

The exhibit explores two series of photography by Temkin—Private Places and Rooftop: The Rise of Living Architecture.

The Private Places series focuses on the garden as an oasis for people to enjoy in their personal time. It explores the expression of individuality that private gardens display and the escape for the mind they provide.

In Rooftop: The Rise of Living Architecture, the series documents the science of rooftop gardens and their effect on the thermodynamic behavior of buildings. Temkin records the beauty and value that these gardens furnish to architecture, landscape and the environment. By having these rooftop gardens, the ecological carbon footprint is reduced because of the decreasing energy usage. In addition, these gardens replenish the atmosphere through photosynthesis.

Temkin is a Chicago-based photographer who focuses on the human impact on contemporary landscape.

This exhibition was initiated and came to fruition due to the joint efforts of the MSU College of Law and the School of Journalism, and is co-sponsored by Media Sandbox: The Integrated Media Arts Program in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and Department of Art & Art History.
