Play - Create - Challenge, the newest initiative at the Impression 5 Science Center, is taking form in its interactive family-friendly exhibit, MI Nature, with a new feature called "Build-A-Plant."
Inspired by the research of local scientists, as well as an international network, and constructed by Impression 5's very own talented designers, this is science with a local flair for the imaginative soul. This new initiative goes through the month of November at Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing.
The plan for this colorful exhibit first began a few years ago when the Department of Plant Biology at Michigan State University was given a grant to further their research of plant viruses. With continued research, scientists will be able to create and commercially release test plants that have built up resistances to the specific viruses that destroy them. This could as much as double some crop production in Africa by 2016, putting an end to the downward spiral of poverty and malnutrition.
MSU has shared their efforts with Impression 5 by using MI Nature as an outlet to bring science into the lives and minds of kids and their families.
