Breakfast on the Farm set for Oct. 6 in Allegan

An Allegan dairy farm will host a free, educational event that is designed to help non-farm residents learn about modern agriculture. Breakfast on the Farm will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at the John Schaendorf Dairy.

Visitors will have the opportunity to take self-guided tours to see where the farm’s 1,600 cows are milked and housed. They can also enjoy a free (with ticket) breakfast featuring Michigan-made products. The event also features hands-on children’s activities.

Participants of all ages can learn about the process of making milk, a cow’s life cycle and farmland conservation practices. Volunteers will answer questions at various points along the tour route.

The farm tour and breakfast are free, but tickets are required for the breakfast.

Breakfast on the Farm is offered by Michigan State University Extension.
