Tajikistan ambassador visits MSU

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Abdujabbor Shirinov, the nation of Tajikistan’s ambassador to the United States, visited Michigan State University this past week.

Shirinov was on campus May 22 and 23.

The ambassador was invited by Karim Maredia, lead investigator of the Central Asia Integrated Pest Management CRSP, to meet with the project’s team, learn about its food security work and share his ideas about enriching the collaboration in his country. The IPM CRSP team has been working in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan since 2005.

While at MSU, Shirinov visited the lab of Dave Douches, a potato breeder working in the IPM CRSP project who is identifying suitable varieties for production as certified seed within the region. The Ambassador also visited the Pest Diagnostic Clinic and Student Organic Farm.

Shirinov has served as Tajikistan ambassador to the United States since 2007.
